Pigeon Island (Guvercin ada)
Pigeon
is a small island located in the city center became the symbol of kusadasi. A
breakwater connecting the pigeon island
to the coast lets the tourists easily walk in to visit the island and castle
inside.
A
castle built over steeprocks during the Byzantium period and 2.5 mt height City
walls surrounding the island was also used by ottomans in 19th century
against rebels and pirates. So the
castle called as castle of pirates by
some locals.
Today
a restaurant inside and one at the entrance of castle is available to spend
time and drink something while watching a fascinating sunset.

Pigeon Island, also known as Bird Island,
is the symbol of Kusadasi and where the name Kusadasi (meaning Bird Island) derived
from.
