Required Documents and Conditions For Getting Married in  Turkey

Before marryingi n Turkey couples have to apply the embassies or consulates of their countries in the country where the marriage will be held.

English Embassy is located in Ankara and consulates located in Antalya, Istanbul, Izmir

U.S Embassy located in Ankara and consulates located in Istanbul, Adana and Izmir

All countries embassies are located in the capital town of Turkey in Ankara.

Two  foreign nationals of different countries can get married only by the authorized Turkish registrar for civil marriages inTurkey. If authorized by their own legislation, the official representatives of foreign countries in Turkey can act as a marriage registrars for their own citizens. The foreign nationals of the same country can get married in Turkey either in the offices of their own countries Embassy/Consulate or by the Turkish authorities. Foreign nationals can apply to the marriage registrars in Turkey and they are subject to the same rules and provisions of the Turkish Civil Code concerning the Turkish Citizens. In order to obtain the required marriage license, marriage registrars can directly correspond with the related consulates or they can obtain necessary documents trough the Turkish Ministry of Interior.

Here is the list of necessary documents forE nglish Citizens;

* Certificate of Non impediment from the town where you reside in England.

* Passports of both Man and his fiancee

* Full BirthCertificate

* divorce Papers, death certificate of spouse if applicable

* 6 passport size photos each

After collecting all the required documents, your wedding organizer in Turkey will assist you and take you the nearest embassy or consulate to make the application and translate the documents in Turkish.

Conditions and Capacity For  a Valid Marriage in Turkey:

* In order to marry, a person must arrive at years of discretion which is 18 in Turkey.

* Only those who have sufficient mental capacity to make fair judgment are allowed to marry.

* Those who are related trough consanguinity at first degree are not allowed to marry.

* A married person can not apply for another marriage. A divorcee should produce the legal documents (ie: A Court Sentence about the termination of her/his previousmarriage) in order to marry again.

* A women whose marriage was dissolved can not marry during the period which is indicated int he divorce decree. A divorce decree may also state a waiting period for the parties to marry again.

* A person cannot apply if there a legal bar about her/his marriage.

* Certain venereal and contagious diseases constitute a bar to marriage in Turkey.
