 Barhal church ( monastery )

Located in the Altiparmak village of Yusufeli district.  It is understood that the  Church ( monastery ) is dedicated to  John the Baptist in the 9th century by King  David Magistros.

The church ( monastery ) was fixed and converted in 1677 to a mosque by Sir Haci Serif.

Onartılarak converted into a mosque in 1677 by Sir Haji Sharif. The church was made up from cut rock  and chipped rocks.

It is a three aisled basilica in size of 28.40X18.65 cm from outside.  Figures made in the low relief technique situated over the window are very good in condition.

Church surprisingly to similar samples left from the 9th century is in a very good condition today used as a mosque by villagers.  A must place to see in the region.

It can be reached by Yusufeli district mostly in an hour by a car.
