Dolmabahce palace ( dolmabachce sarayi )was built with a combination of european and ottoman styles between 1843 – 1856.

 

The great Topkapi palace was left  and moved to  new palace upon the completion of Dolmabahce palace.

 

Dolmabahce palace ( dolmabahce sarayi )has 285 room and 43 lounge  built into 3 floors. Dolmabahce located by the sea has a 600 mt long pier , 2 monumental gates and in the middle of the palace  a ceremony hall situated .

 

 The entrance side of the Palace was used for the Sultan’s meetings and interviews. The other side of the ceremony hall used as harem section. Inner decoration , furnitures, silk carpets , curtains etc. have reached our day without any damage or harm and exhibited in the palace. 

 

 Dolmabahce has a unique glory and  wealth  which can not be seen in any other palaces.

 

Walls and ceilings were decorated by tones of  gold covers and figures prepared by famous artists od Europe.

 

In important rooms and halls everything has a one common colour tone. Floor grounds are decorated with  wooden embellished parquets and many famous hand made silk turkish carpets and rugs available all around the palace. Hand made master pieces of Europe and Asia can be seen any point in the palace. Shining crystal chandeliers, candle sticks, fire places presents their luxury in every corner of the  dolmabahce palace.

 

The biggest ball hall among the palaces in world belong to dolmabahce palace. Dome of the palace height 36 mt from ground carries and hangs an  extremely large ,  monstrous 4.5 tone crystal chandelier.

 

Harem section which can be reached by passing from long corridors  has the bedrooms of Sultans , a section seperated for the mothers of Sultans  and places for the women and servers .

 

Additional north part of the palace was separated to sons of Sultan ( sehzade ). This part of the palace today used as art and statue museum.

 

The most important and sad incident occured in the palace was the death of Ataturk ( founder of republic of Turkey ) in 1938.

 

The watches in the palace are stopped  in time of Ataturk’s death 09:05 and never works to the memory and respect of Ataturk.

 

Opening hours to visit dolmabahce palace is ;

 

Winter period (october - february): 09:30 - 15:00

Summer season (March - september): 09:30 - 16:00

 

Dolmabahce Palace is closed Monday and Thursdays for visitors.

 

How to go Dolmabahce palace ?

 

Dolmabahce is in a walking distance to Besiktas and kabatas ferry stations. Palace located just next to Stadium of Besiktas football club . People can either walk there from Taksim square or take a minibuses from districts around.

dolmabahce saray is an unique art which can not be seen and visited anywhere in world except istanbul. a highly recommended place to see in istanbul
