Dalyan located over the canal which integrates th mediterranean sea and lake  of koycegiz. Dalyan means fishery pond in turkish language . The main income of the city before tourism was fishing so the place was called as dalyan; the fishery ground.  Relativeley to other touristic places in the same area dalyan was less developed and crowded. The reason for that is the 12km distance of   Dalyan  to mainroad.

         Kaunos the antique city situated by dalyan is also increase the attraction in the area. The remnants found in Kaunos shows us the history of site goes back to 3.000 B.C

Kaunos was a very rich site even to use their own coins . Kaunos reigned by Ionions , Alexander the great, rome empire , Byzantium , Rhodes, and Ottomans. We understand from the maintenance made during the ottoman empire Kaunos was a place with ongoing life.

300 hundred years old Kaunos Rock tombs greet you during the boat trip in dalyan. These tombs are the symbol of Dalyan . Six rock tombs on the Dalyan river (4th - 2nd century BC), which are Dalyan's prime sight. The facades of the rock tombs resemble the fronts of Hellenistic temples with two Ionian pillars, a triangular pediment, an architrave with toothed friezes, and acroterions shaped like palm leaves.

Acropolis, amphitheater with 5000 thousands people capacity , roman baths , byzantine basilica , agora , stoa, temples and city walls are the excavated  structures to be seen in Dalyan.

How to get Dalyan ?

Dalaman airport is 25 km away from  dalyan  provides an easy transportation to district. If you are driving  in direction of fethiye from mugla you will see the signs on the way which will lead you to dalyan. You can also go by bus first to district and ortaca and catch a minibus shuttling to Dalyan every 15 minutes.

Iztuzu is  one of a unique  beach separating the Dalyan canal and open sea. The huge turtles called caretta caretta come to this beach to lay their eggs so the beach is protected by government. Iztuzu beach was chosen the second beach protected its nature with golden coloured sands. Boats  and minibuses are available all day long to take you this unique beach.

Many restaurants and accommodation facilities are  available in dalyan district, grey mullet and blue crabs are the seafoods peculiar  to region and recommended to try.

does the mud bath in dalyan stink and stain?
the natural components of the mud cause it to be stinky and thick mud layer hardly comes off from the bikinis and shorts so don't take your new swimsuits when you r goin there.

dalyan fortunately is not as popular as other tourist destinations but unfortunatrly hundreds of daily tours made here spoil the peacefull atmosphere in daytime.But after discovering the area you will find a corner for yourself to enjoy your holiday. motels are cozy and staff in dalyan are so friendly
