Kayakoy ( the gost town)
will be welcoming you after a 5km drive from hisaronu with deserted stone houses used by greeks in past. Anatolian greeks were very good farmers and
agriculturalists so they built their houses over a slope to use the cultivable
lands. Population of the village was almost 25 k people in 1922 yet the
inhabitants of the village immigrated to Greece after the population exchange
between Greece and Turkey. Turkish People from western thrace was immigrated
and settled this village. Turkish people
preferred to live and built houses on plains. Currently population of
the area is around 2 k people.
Most of the Turkish and
muslim population who was settled here immigrated to another places
nevertheless Greeks immigrated to Greece never forget their village and to keep
their memories live forever named their new settlemens as neo makri( new fethiye).
Today stone houses , 14
chapels 3 churches with frescos
, cisterns are worth to see.
