Kingdom located between mount Taurus and euphrates valley. Today gaziantep , adiyaman , kahramanmaras cities are oveer the land. Kommagene name was derived from Kummuh word in hittite language.

Kommagene had a very important position in view of located on the trading roads. Capital city of Kommagene was Samossata.

Anthiochos the king of kommagene got huge statues erected on the peak of mount nemrut . These statues belonged to greek and persian gods . He also got his own statue erected among these gods to show the equailty of king  kommagene with gods. Monumetal statues over the mount nemrut  created a natural panteon. A tumuli of anthiochos also available on the mountain.

Dynasty of anthiokos family reigned the kommagene for centuries. Later Roman empire dominated the land and flourished the economy and life.

Anthiocos dreamed to integrate west and east cultures so he got monumental statues erected and sacred areas built to peak of mount nemrut.  His notions and dream ceased by his dead.
