Mysia
Mysia is the area today where balikesir , manisa , north
part of izmir and west part of Turkey are. Olympos ( mt uludag) defines the eastern , kaikos defines the
south and western , aisepos and
rhyndakos defines the northern borders of the district.
Mysia name was taken from the a Thracian tribe called
Mysies.
Mysia meaning is the beech wood and Beech trees are mostly
seen and grown in Uludag.
The people of Mysia was very brave and strong figthers. They
had a very well known reputation with these features. Most of these wariors
became mercaniries in different armies. Mysians kept their nomadic culture for
centuries even after the immigration to anatolia
Lydians, Persians, Macedonians , byzantium and turks had
dominated the District.
They produced
turpentine and pitch from the trees grown in the area and used them in
medicals. Prokonnesos island was famous with its white marbles.
