Nargile ( water pipe ) is  a traditional tobacco smoking apparatus mostly used  in middle east and south Asia.    Nargile has a mechanism that helps you to   inhale the smoke of tobacco from filtered water via a hose.

Nargile with smoking style shaped over centuries  and  proprieties mean   more than a smoking device  and has become an unchanging  part of the eastern culture.

Nargile was known as water pipe , shisha pipe , hookah

Ser:  It’s the  long body of the nargile.  This part of the shisha-pipe as  a shape recalls  the  water pinch . Upper part of it is narrow though it gets wider to bottom.  Usually made of ceramic , metal or glass .

Lule :  It stands at upper most of the nargile and used as a part  to put the grinned tobacco .  Small holes are placed in this part.  Usually made by copper or silver and decorated with handmade curves.  The heat provided by a coal put on  Lule.

Marpuc :  The hose helps to circulate smoke from glass part to mouth.  Inner part of the hose made by  the skin of ship or deer.

Sise : A Bottle containing the water   and where the boiling sounds occur.

Sipsi : A small apparat used on the top of the hose to help people for a better and smoother smoke.   Due to the hygenic conditions mostly used for once by each person.  Made by plastic , marble or silver.  Plastic ones preferred in view of fiscal conditions.

Tepsi  and Ruzgarlik : Tepsi meaning tray in turkish collects the ashes falling from the burning coal.  Ruzgarlik meaning  wind protector in turkish used to prevent ashes to spread around and collected  on tray.

Tombeki :

A special  and peculiar dry  tobacco produced  by grinning of  dried tobaccos.  Design of the nargile , shisha pipe carries very deep marks from the islamic art.  The part of the nargile called Ser with similarity to a mosque minaret  is a very good sample to proof of these marks.

The  ser part mostly decorated with flower and leaf figures. Marpuc ( the hose of the nargile ) usually decorated with hand made rug and carpet figures and models.

How nargile ( shisha pipe ) works ?

  The air occured  when the smokers  take a breath from  markuc ( hose of shisa ) depending on the pressure differences first passes by the burning coal and after heated  from this part goes and pass to  holes of  Lule.  Smoke of Tombeki ( tobacco ) heated via hot air  transmitted through water and get cooled during this process.  Later on the air reaches the smoker via marpuc ( hose ).  The water in the  Nargile shisha pipe filters the tar beyond cooling the smoke .  The main difference between smoking a cigarette and nargile is the evaporation of the water  when the inhaled smoke passing by water.

Nargile is a sbuject of eastern culture though it’s supposed to be the born place is India .  Nargile was known and named in various types  as Narcile by Arabs ,  Kalyan by persians.   Nargile name was derived from the word nargil in persian meaning coconut . The first samples of nargile was made by  a  coconut and pipe stucked in  shell of coconut.

In time Coconut replaced with pumpkins and when the number of users increased porcelein, copper and bronze became suitable metals and products to make nargile.

Tombeki took part in some joyfull conversations  and brought by Iran during the Ottomans period was prohibited to be used by some Ottoman sultans.

Nargile has been used since years in Istanbul tophane , Izmir Kemeralti , ankara youth park.  Most of the users and visitors of these  districts in turkey  was above average age.  Since the flavoured  nargiles started to be served and  made nargile comparatively smoother and softer  more younger people preferring the nargile- shisha pipe
