Red Basilica
Red Basilica which can be seen in the Bergama center, were dedicated to Egyptian god Serapis. Two-towered temple was made of red bricks were converted to a church in the Byzantine period. The water of Selinos river flows under the courtyard via two vaulted channels.
A huge temple gate is located front of the temple. The entry stairs of this gate were made of 70 ton single block marble. Secret passageways and staircases were built under the some parts of the courtyard and round Gates on the sides in order to help archpriest to reach to the head of cult statue without seen by others.
The Temple which converted to a church with additional structures in early Byzantine period was one of the most important church for christianity in 313-500 A.D . Pergamon church is also one of the seven churches of Christianity which even mentioned in Bible.
