Okuz Mehmet Pasha Caravanserai
Okuz Mehmet Pasha Caravanserai which situated in the town , very close to Kusadasi harbour was built by the Grand Vizier Mehmed Pasha in 1618.
Crushed and re-used stones are used to built the structure. There is rectangular courtyard available surrounded by thick and high walls. Caravanserai has an appearence of a small inner castle . There are many rooms are available and lined up around the wide courtyard.
Structure have been restored several times in years therefore it is now in a very good condition.
Caravanserai currently used as a hotel with a capacity of 50 beds.
Structure is also used for the traditional Turkish nights which are organized by local agencies to show the Turkish culture and cuisine to the foreign visitors.
Okuz Mehmet Pasha who got built the Caravanserai and gave his name was a Grand vizier of Ottoman empire during the reign of Sultan Ahmet
“öküz” means ox in Turkish therefore it’s a bit weird to see this word is given to him as a moniker however his father used to work as a black smith for ox make it understable him to be known with this name.
